Smash Court Tennis 3 for Xbox 360 is a game that seeks to capture the excitement and intensity of professional tennis, featuring some of the sport’s biggest stars such as Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Justine Henin. Despite its promise, unfortunately, the game falls short in several key areas, warranting a rating of 3 out of 10.
One of the game’s main strengths is its wide array of customizable items. Players can personalize their characters with different racquets, sportswear, and more, allowing for a unique and personalized gaming experience. This feature gives a nostalgic feel reminiscent of classic games that offered customization options, and it adds a layer of depth to the gameplay.
In terms of gameplay, Smash Court Tennis 3 offers a variety of strokes that can be executed by the various playable professional tennis stars. Each athlete is modeled after their real-life counterpart, and the attention to detail is commendable. However, the execution of the gameplay falls short, with clunky controls and an unresponsive feel that detracts from the overall experience.
The game also includes a range of gameplay modes, including Arcade, Exhibition, and Pro Tour Mode, providing players with different ways to enjoy the game. Additionally, there are imaginative and addicting mini-games that offer a quick break from the main circuit. These additional modes and mini-games contribute to the game’s nostalgic feel, reminiscent of classic games that offered diverse gameplay options.
One noteworthy feature of Smash Court Tennis 3 is its game sharing system, which allows players to engage in versus mode with a friend using a single UMD. This adds a social aspect to the game and intensifies the competitive experience. Furthermore, local rankings and wireless play via Ad Hoc mode contribute to the fun and bragging rights associated with multiplayer gaming.
In conclusion, while Smash Court Tennis 3 for Xbox 360 attempts to capture the essence of professional tennis and offers a range of customizable options, its shortcomings in terms of gameplay controls and responsiveness hinder the overall enjoyment. However, its inclusion of diverse gameplay modes, addicting mini-games, and a robust multiplayer experience adds a nostalgic touch that may appeal to retro gaming enthusiasts.
