Mafia III: Faster, Baby! for PlayStation 4 takes players on a high-octane journey filled with explosive chases and thrilling vehicular mayhem. This expansion to the original Mafia III game offers a fresh perspective as it introduces a new town and gameplay experiences, all while staying true to the protagonist, Lincoln’s, compelling tale.
Set alongside the events of the main game, Faster, Baby! dives into the investigation of the murder of a civil rights leader, shedding light on corruption within the local sheriff’s department. As players take control of Lincoln and team up with Roxy Laveau, daughter of Charles The Voice Laveau, they must unravel the secrets behind this heinous crime. Hangar 13’s Narrative Director, Bill Harms, assures players that Sinclair Parish, while fictional, draws inspiration from real towns of the past, where a narrow-minded way of life prevailed.
In Sinclair Parish, a small rural township nestled near the Bayou, players can expect nostalgic vibes reminiscent of classic games. The gameplay primarily revolves around intense driving sequences, allowing players to push the limits and revel in heart-pounding moments. With numerous opportunities to tear through sharp turns, leap across gaps, and elude the law, Faster, Baby! serves as a natural extension of the previously released free racing DLC.
While this expansion brings an exciting new setting and gameplay elements to Mafia III, it falls short in several aspects. The overall rating of 3.5/10 reflects the disappointment experienced by players who had hoped for a more substantial and polished addition to the game. The lack of depth in the story and repetitive missions hinder the overall experience, leaving players yearning for more substantial content.
In conclusion, Mafia III: Faster, Baby! presents an intriguing premise with its new town and intense driving gameplay. Its commitment to capturing the essence of a specific time in American history is commendable. However, the limited depth in the narrative and repetitive missions prevent it from reaching its full potential. Despite its nostalgic feel and bursts of excitement, this expansion fails to leave a lasting impression.
