Life Goes On: Done to Death for PlayStation 4 is a comically morbid platformer that perfectly captures the essence of retro gaming with its unique blend of humor and challenging gameplay. With a rating of 3.5/10, this game may not be a standout title, but it still manages to deliver a somewhat enjoyable experience.
In this game, you play the role of a heroic knight on a quest to find the Cup of Life for a mighty king who wants to achieve immortality. However, instead of navigating your way to victory, you must guide your knights to their demise in order to use their dead bodies to solve clever puzzles. This darkly humorous concept sets the stage for an intriguing and twisted adventure.
One of the most nostalgic aspects of Life Goes On: Done to Death is its retro-style graphics and sound design. The pixelated visuals and chip-tune soundtrack transport players back to the heyday of classic gaming. The game’s aesthetic perfectly complements the quirky and macabre theme, creating a nostalgic atmosphere that is sure to resonate with retro gaming enthusiasts.
However, while the game succeeds in capturing a nostalgic feel, its overall execution falls short. The gameplay, while initially entertaining, quickly becomes repetitive and lacks depth. The puzzles, although cleverly designed, are not challenging enough to fully engage players. Additionally, the controls can feel clunky and imprecise at times, hindering the overall enjoyment of the experience.
Despite its shortcomings, Life Goes On: Done to Death does have its high points. The game’s humor, although dark, manages to elicit genuine laughs and adds an extra layer of charm to the gameplay. The concept of sacrificing knights to progress through the game is refreshingly unique and ensures that players are constantly thinking outside the box.
In conclusion, Life Goes On: Done to Death for PlayStation 4 is a game that will appeal to fans of retro gaming looking for a quirky and humor-filled adventure. While it may not reach the heights of classic titles, its nostalgic aesthetic and original concept make it worth a try for those seeking a trip down memory lane. Despite some flaws in execution, this game manages to offer a somewhat enjoyable experience for those willing to overlook its shortcomings.
