Elefunk for PlayStation 3 is a puzzle game that aims to test your construction skills while also providing a nostalgic feel reminiscent of classic games. Published by SCEA and developed by 8bit Games, this downloadable game offers 20 levels of challenging puzzles that require you to navigate elephants across perilous obstacles.
The game features realistic physics, adding an element of authenticity to the construction aspects. You’ll need to use metal, wood, and rope to strengthen the structures and ensure the elephants can safely cross ravines, rivers, fire pits, and swamps.
Elefunk offers three different game modes: Puzzle, Time Attack, and Deconstruction. In Puzzle Mode, you start with an empty level and must construct a structure using the limited number of pieces provided. There is no time limit, allowing you to carefully plan and execute your construction strategies.
Time Attack mode unlocks previously completed levels, where you begin with a partially constructed structure. Your task is to finish the structure within a specific time limit using the limited materials provided. This mode adds a sense of urgency and challenges your ability to think quickly and efficiently.
If you prefer multiplayer experiences, Elefunk also offers a two-player mode called Deconstruction. Whether playing online or offline, each player takes turns trying to remove a piece of the structure without causing the elephant to fall. This mode adds a competitive edge to the game, and the player with the most points at the end of all rounds is declared the winner.
While Elefunk captures the essence of classic puzzle games and offers a variety of gameplay modes, it falls short in terms of overall enjoyment. The graphics and sound design lack refinement and polish, leaving a lot to be desired in terms of visual and auditory appeal. Additionally, the gameplay can become repetitive and predictable, leading to a lack of long-term engagement.
Overall, Elefunk offers a decent puzzle game experience with its realistic physics and nostalgic feel. However, the game’s lackluster graphics and repetitive gameplay prevent it from truly standing out among other retro-inspired titles. This game may appeal to die-hard fans of classic puzzle games, but it may not captivate a wider audience seeking more immersive and visually appealing experiences.
