Xuan-Yuan Sword: The Gate of Firmament for Xbox One takes players on an ancient journey into a world of divine powers, cults, and evil forces. As a seasoned retro gaming enthusiast, I appreciate the nostalgic feel of this game, as it brings back memories of classic titles with its rich storytelling and atmospheric scenes.
One aspect of this game that stands out is the new lighting system, which sets the mood and creates various atmospheric scenes. Combined with the facial animation and lip-sync systems, as well as the MVN motion capture system, the visuals and characters in Xuan-Yuan Sword: The Gate of Firmament are elevated to a new level of quality. This attention to detail enhances the players’ immersion in the game, allowing them to fully understand the behaviors and feelings of the protagonists.
The battle system in this latest entry has been replaced with a real-time, encounter-based gameplay mechanism, making the battles more intense and engaging. The inclusion of returning features exclusive to the Xuan-Yuan Sword series, such as the Urn of Spirit Infusion for demon-synthesis and equipment refinement, the Guardian System that allows captured demons to fight on your side, and the Miracle System that grants additional attack buffs, adds depth and strategy to the gameplay experience.
A new addition to the series is the Battle Formation system, which further enhances the gameplay by providing a richer and more immersive gaming experience. This system allows players to strategically position their characters in battle, adding an extra layer of tactical decision-making.
While Xuan-Yuan Sword: The Gate of Firmament showcases some impressive technical features and nostalgic elements, it falls short in certain areas. The overall rating for this game is 3/10 due to its lackluster execution and repetitive gameplay. The story, while intriguing, fails to fully captivate the player, and the combat, while intense, can become monotonous over time.
Despite its flaws, Xuan-Yuan Sword: The Gate of Firmament offers a decent retro gaming experience for those who enjoy immersive storytelling and tactical battles. It may not be a standout title for the Xbox One, but it will appeal to fans of the Xuan-Yuan Sword series and those seeking a nostalgic gaming experience.
