AIPD – Artificial Intelligence Police Department takes players on a journey into the AI universe, pitting them against malevolent artificial intelligences. This top-down co-op twin-stick shooter offers a nostalgic and retro-inspired experience that is sure to appeal to seasoned gamers looking to recapture the magic of classic titles.
One of the standout features of AIPD is the vast array of weapons and modifications available to players. With thousands of possible combinations, the game offers a level of customization that adds depth and replayability. It’s thrilling to experiment with different loadouts and discover the most efficient ways to take down the enemy AI.
The game prides itself on providing an unprecedented and nearly unlimited arcade experience. The combination of different enemy and arena permutations ensures that no two playthroughs are alike. This unpredictability adds a layer of excitement and challenge, keeping players engaged and on their toes.
However, despite its potential, AIPD falls short in a few critical areas. The graphics, while intentionally retro-inspired, lack the polish and finesse that would truly bring the game to life. The visuals, although reminiscent of classic games, feel somewhat outdated and fail to fully immerse players in the AI universe.
Additionally, the gameplay can feel repetitive and lacks the innovation required to truly stand out in the twin-stick shooter genre. While the customization options are commendable, the core mechanics of the game remain relatively unchanged throughout, resulting in a somewhat monotonous experience after extended play sessions.
Overall, AIPD – Artificial Intelligence Police Department succeeds in delivering a nostalgic experience with its retro-inspired visuals and extensive customization options. However, it falls short in terms of graphics and innovative gameplay mechanics. While it may not live up to the standards set by classic titles, it still offers an enjoyable arcade experience that will particularly resonate with retro gaming enthusiasts. With a rating of 3.5/10, AIPD may not be a must-play, but it still holds some potential for those seeking a trip down memory lane.
