Resident Evil: Revelations 2 for PlayStation VITA delivers a dose of nostalgia for retro gaming enthusiasts, but falls short in several crucial areas, earning a rating of 4/10. Developed by Frima Studio and published by SCEA, this handheld version of the popular survival horror series offers a unique blend of appreciation for the past and astute feedback for the present.
One aspect that invokes a sense of nostalgia is the inclusion of Raid Mode, a staple of the Resident Evil series. With a variety of characters to choose from, players can find a character that suits their playstyle, reminiscent of classic games where character selection was a vital aspect. This adds a layer of depth and replayability to the game, encouraging players to tailor their experience to their preferences.
In true retro gaming fashion, customization plays a significant role in Revelations 2. Players can customize their weapons and skills, allowing for strategic gameplay and personalization. This level of customization harkens back to vintage games where players had the freedom to shape their gameplay experience according to their unique playstyle, enhancing the nostalgic appeal of this installment.
The inclusion of treasure chests in Raid Mode is a welcome addition, reminding players of the thrill of discovery in classic games. These chests contain valuable loot, such as weapons, custom parts, and currency, adding an extra layer of excitement and reward to the gameplay experience. The nostalgic nod to the past through these treasure chests serves as a delightful reminder of the joy of exploration in retro gaming.
One of the key features of Resident Evil: Revelations 2 for PlayStation VITA is its cooperative play option, including local two-player split-screen. This aspect pays homage to the multiplayer experiences of yesteryear, allowing players to team up with a friend and venture through the game together. This cooperative play option instills a sense of camaraderie reminiscent of classic multiplayer games, elevating the nostalgic charm of this handheld version.
However, despite these nods to the past, Resident Evil: Revelations 2 for PlayStation VITA falls short in several areas, which contribute to its overall rating of 4/10. The game suffers from technical issues and performance inconsistencies, hindering the seamless gameplay experience that retro gaming enthusiasts desire. Additionally, the game lacks innovation and fails to captivate players with fresh and exciting gameplay mechanics.
In conclusion, Resident Evil: Revelations 2 for PlayStation VITA provides a dose of nostalgia for retro gaming enthusiasts through its character selection, customization options, treasure chests, and cooperative play. However, technical issues and a lack of innovation detract from its overall appeal. While this installment may satisfy those eager to relive the past, it ultimately falls short in delivering a truly exceptional retro gaming experience.
