Time Recoil for PlayStation 4 offers a nostalgic trip down memory lane, bringing elements of classic top-down shooters while incorporating a unique twist. With its slow motion gunfights, epic special moves, and time attack mode, it aims to captivate retro gaming enthusiasts with its old-school charm.
The game’s standout feature is the ability to slow down time by killing enemies, allowing players to perform mind-bending slow motion feats. As you accumulate kills, you’ll unlock special moves that enable you to dash through walls and mow down enemies in a devastating manner. This combination of slowdown and moves creates a satisfying chain of destruction that will make any seasoned gamer’s heart pound with excitement.
Embracing its retro roots, Time Recoil pays homage to classic games with its engaging time travel storyline. As the hero of a rebel organization, you’ll find yourself battling the mad scientist dictator, Mr. Time, who possesses a powerful time-based weapon. Utilizing the rebel base’s Time Machine, you will venture into the past via wormholes, encountering unexpected twists and missions that range from assassinations to rescuing scientists. Your ultimate goal: eliminate Mr. Time and restore peace.
While Time Recoil does an excellent job of capturing the essence of retro gaming, it falls short in some areas. The graphics and overall gameplay may not meet the expectations of players accustomed to modern titles. Additionally, the game’s controls could benefit from some refinement to enhance the overall experience.
Despite its shortcomings, Time Recoil’s unique concept and nostalgic charm make it a worthwhile addition to any retro gaming library. It may not receive top marks in every aspect, earning a rating of 3.5/10, but it remains an enjoyable journey for those seeking a blast from the past. Publisher 10tons and developer 10tons have successfully crafted a game that resonates with seasoned retro gaming enthusiasts, offering a blend of genuine appreciation and constructive feedback that can only come from a veteran in the gaming industry.
