This Is the Police for PlayStation 4 takes gamers on a nostalgic journey through the gritty world of crime and corruption. As a seasoned retro gaming enthusiast, I can appreciate the game’s commitment to capturing the essence of classic police strategy/adventure titles. From its pixel art style to the deep storytelling, there are certainly elements that will tug at the heartstrings of those of us who grew up playing vintage games.
The game puts players in the shoes of Police Chief Jack Boyd, a character who embodies a no-nonsense, tough-as-nails protagonist that is reminiscent of classic police dramas. It’s refreshing to see a game that embraces this retro aesthetic and narrative style, injecting a sense of nostalgia into every decision and action taken.
One of the standout aspects of This Is the Police is its deep and engaging storyline. The game delves into the dark underbelly of a city on the verge of collapse, presenting players with tough choices and moral dilemmas. As a seasoned retro gaming journalist, I appreciate the game’s ability to immerse players in an intricate web of crime and intrigue. The storyline keeps players on their toes, eager to uncover the next twist or turn.
However, while This Is the Police captures the essence of classic retro games, it falls short in areas that hinder its overall enjoyment. The gameplay can feel repetitive and lacking in variety, with certain tasks and missions becoming mundane over time. Furthermore, the controls can be a bit clunky and unintuitive, making it frustrating to navigate through the game’s world.
Graphically, This Is the Police embraces a pixel art style that is reminiscent of classic gaming. While this may appeal to retro gaming enthusiasts like myself, it may not resonate with those who prefer more modern and polished visuals. Additionally, the game’s soundtrack effectively sets the mood, further enhancing the nostalgic feel.
In conclusion, This Is the Police for PlayStation 4 is a game that successfully captures the essence of retro police strategy/adventure titles. Its engaging storyline and nostalgic aesthetic make it a worthy addition to any classic gaming enthusiast’s collection. However, it falls short in terms of gameplay variety and controls, which may hinder the overall enjoyment for some players. With a bit more refinement, This Is the Police could have been a true standout in the genre. Nevertheless, it’s still a game that manages to pay homage to its retro inspirations while offering an intriguing and immersive experience.
