Gal*Gun: Double Peace for PlayStation 4 is a quirky and nostalgic experience that may appeal to fans of retro gaming. Developed by Alchemist and Inti Creates, this game combines classic gameplay elements with a unique premise that sets it apart from other titles in the genre.
One of the standout features of Gal*Gun: Double Peace is the delightful art style that harkens back to the days of classic 2D side-scrolling shooters. The vibrant colors, detailed character designs, and charming animations all contribute to creating a visually appealing experience reminiscent of old-school arcade games.
In terms of gameplay, Gal*Gun: Double Peace borrows elements from popular retro titles such as Contra and Metal Slug. Players take on the role of a high school student, armed with an Ecstasy Shot that can make girls swoon at the slightest touch. While this concept may seem risqué, the game handles it with a lighthearted and humorous tone that adds to its overall nostalgic charm.
Despite its nostalgic appeal, Gal*Gun: Double Peace falls short in certain areas. The controls can be clunky at times, making it difficult to navigate through the levels smoothly. Additionally, the game’s repetitive nature may become tiresome for some players, as the core gameplay loop revolves around shooting down waves of infatuated girls.
Furthermore, the storyline in Gal*Gun: Double Peace is rather shallow and predictable, lacking the depth and intrigue that one might expect from a retro-inspired title. The dialogue can be cringe-inducing at times, relying heavily on tired anime tropes that may not resonate with all players.
Overall, Gal*Gun: Double Peace for PlayStation 4 delivers a nostalgic and quirky experience that may satisfy fans of retro gaming. Its charming art style and nods to classic titles create a sense of familiarity for seasoned gamers. However, its clunky controls, repetitive gameplay, and shallow storyline prevent it from reaching its full potential. While it may appeal to a niche audience, others may find its flaws overshadow its nostalgic appeal.
