Abyss Odyssey: Extended Dream Edition offers a nostalgic trip back to the days of classic retro gaming. Developed by ACE Team and published by Atlus, this PlayStation 4 game delivers an intriguing blend of stunning visuals and a complex fighting engine.
One of the standout features of Abyss Odyssey: Extended Dream Edition is its Art Nouveau-inspired art style. The hand-drawn graphics are visually stunning, capturing the essence of a bygone era of gaming. Every character, enemy, and environment is meticulously crafted, transporting players into a dream world that feels like a work of art.
The gameplay of Abyss Odyssey: Extended Dream Edition is equally impressive. Players will find themselves engrossed in its side-scrolling action adventure, battling their way through procedurally generated levels. The fighting engine is deep and complex, allowing players to chain attacks and unleash a flurry of blows upon their enemies. It’s a satisfying and challenging experience that will keep retro gaming enthusiasts on their toes.
In addition to the upgraded graphics and smoother gameplay, Abyss Odyssey: Extended Dream Edition also introduces an online PvP mode. This new feature adds an extra layer of excitement and competitiveness, allowing players to test their skills against others in exhilarating battles. It’s a welcome addition that adds replay value to the game.
However, while Abyss Odyssey: Extended Dream Edition has its nostalgic charm and engaging gameplay, it falls short in certain aspects. The game lacks a sense of progression and variety, with the procedurally generated levels feeling repetitive after a while. This can make the game feel monotonous and may deter some players from fully immersing themselves in the experience.
With a rating of 3 out of 10, Abyss Odyssey: Extended Dream Edition is not without its flaws. While it successfully captures the essence of classic retro gaming through its visuals and gameplay, it falls short in terms of variety and progression. Nonetheless, for fans of the genre and retro gaming enthusiasts, it still offers an enjoyable and visually stunning experience.
