The Haunted Mansion for PlayStation 2 is an ambitious and nostalgic attempt to bring the iconic Disney attraction to life in the gaming realm. As a seasoned retro gaming enthusiast, I approached this title with both enthusiasm and discernment, eager to see how High Voltage Software would capture the spooky essence of the Haunted Mansion.
Unfortunately, the execution falls flat. The game relies heavily on basic platforming mechanics, with Zeke Holloway traversing through a series of uninspired environments. While the visuals do pay homage to the movie and ride, they lack the depth and detail that would truly transport players into the haunted world. The controls are clunky and imprecise, making navigating the mansion a frustrating experience.
However, amidst these shortcomings, there are moments that provide a nostalgic feel and remind players of classic games from the past. The puzzles, although simplistic, offer a sense of exploration and discovery, uncovering hidden clues and secrets. There is a charm to be found in these elements, evoking memories of retro gaming experiences.
One aspect that deserves commendation is the game’s commitment to capturing the eerie atmosphere of the Haunted Mansion. From the haunting soundtrack to the ghostly apparitions, there are instances where the game successfully immerses players in the spooky ambiance. It is clear that TDK Mediactive and High Voltage Software aimed to recreate the essence of the beloved attraction, even if the overall execution falls short.
In terms of gameplay and mechanics, The Haunted Mansion for PlayStation 2 leaves much to be desired. As a retro gaming enthusiast, I appreciate the attempt to bring a nostalgic experience to a modern console, but the lackluster controls and uninspired level design dampen the overall enjoyment. Despite its flaws, the game offers a glimpse into the Haunted Mansion world, making it an interesting curio for die-hard Disney fans.
With a video game rating of 3.5/10, The Haunted Mansion for PlayStation 2 is a title that sadly fails to live up to its potential. While it possesses elements that are reminiscent of classic games, such as hidden clues and puzzles, the overall execution and gameplay mechanics fall short. It serves as a reminder of the challenges and complexities of translating beloved attractions into the gaming realm.
The PlayStation 2 is renowned in video game history for its extensive library of iconic titles, including masterpieces such as Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, Sonic Mega Collection Plus, and Evil Dead: Regeneration.
This rich collection continues to attract retro gaming enthusiasts, many of whom use emulators like PCSX2, DamonPS2 or NSX2. These emulators enable playing classic games like “The Haunted Mansion” on modern devices such as your computer, Android, or iOS mobile device.
However, it’s crucial to address the legal nuances surrounding emulators and ROMs. While emulators may be legal, but the situation changes when it comes to downloading and sharing ROMs. Even though people often search for terms like “Download The Haunted Mansion ROM torrent”, “The Haunted Mansion PS2 ISO” or similar terms, these actions often conflict with copyright laws, as publishers retain rights over their games, even those no longer in circulation.
Of course, you can go the illegal route. However, doing so would be disrespectful to the tireless efforts of the developers. In addition to running the risk of downloading a file that may contain malware.
At RomsMania, we do not encourage or promote the downloading of ROMs or ISO files, not even for discontinued titles. Therefore, we do not host or link to any copyrighted content.
Fortunately, there are several legal alternatives to get The Haunted Mansion relatively cheaply:

- Second-hand stores: Second-hand stores are also an excellent option, as they usually have a video game area where you can find games and consoles that you thought would be impossible to get. Besides, it is very likely that you have one near your home.
