This Is the Police is a strategy/adventure game that immerses players into the gritty world of crime and corruption. As Police Chief Jack Boyd, you’re tasked with navigating a city that seems to be on the brink of collapse. With its compelling storyline and neo-noir atmosphere, This Is the Police is an intriguing throwback to the classic detective games of the past.
One of the game’s standout features is its deep and engaging narrative. The story follows Jack Boyd’s journey as he approaches retirement and faces a multitude of dramatic challenges. The game does an excellent job of capturing the essence of a troubled city and its seedy underbelly. As players progress, they’ll encounter a variety of morally ambiguous choices that will truly test their mettle.
The visual style of This Is the Police is reminiscent of classic 2D point-and-click adventure games. The game’s pixel art graphics lend it a retro charm, transporting players back to the days of old-school gaming. This nostalgic aesthetic, combined with the evocative soundtrack, makes for an immersive experience that will resonate with retro gaming enthusiasts.
However, despite its strong narrative and atmospheric presentation, This Is the Police falls short in certain areas. The gameplay can feel repetitive and monotonous at times, with a lack of variety in missions and tasks. Additionally, the controls can be clunky and unintuitive, hindering the overall enjoyment of the game.
Another drawback is the game’s pacing. While the slow-burn narrative may appeal to some players, others may find it draggy and lacking in action. This Is the Police prioritizes storytelling over gameplay, which may not resonate with those seeking a more dynamic and fast-paced experience.
Despite its flaws, This Is the Police manages to create a captivating world that draws players in with its intricate storytelling and atmospheric setting. While the gameplay may not be as polished as one would hope, the game’s neo-noir vibe and retro style make it a must-play for enthusiasts of vintage detective games. This Is the Police earns a rating of 3.5 out of 10, as it delivers elements of nostalgia and an immersive narrative, but falls short in gameplay execution.
