The core activities of scaring towns, kidnapping princesses, burning knights, and toppling giants grow tiresome after a short while, with little variation or depth to keep players hooked. It lacks that addictive quality that makes retro games so enduring.

While the art style may attempt to mimic retro aesthetics, it lacks the attention to detail and polish that truly transports players back in time. That being said, it would be remiss of me not to acknowledge some of the positive aspects of Hoard. The game does provide a decent challenge, with the need for strategic thinking and planning to maximize your hoard. There is a sense of satisfaction in watching your gold pile up, even if the journey to get there may be lackluster.
Additionally, the multiplayer mode adds a bit of excitement, allowing players to compete or cooperate with friends in their dragon-hoarding endeavors. This aspect adds some replay value to an otherwise lackluster experience.
Ultimately, Hoard for PC falls short of the mark for a seasoned retro gaming enthusiast like myself. While it attempts to capture the spirit of classic arcade games with its concept and gameplay, it lacks the depth, polish, and addictive quality that would make it a standout title. With a video game rating of 3.5/10, it’s difficult to wholeheartedly recommend Hoard to players yearning for that authentic retro gaming experience.
