Dark Age of Camelot: Catacombs is an expansion pack that offers players the chance to delve into the mysterious underground cities and adventuring areas inspired by the lore of each realm. As a seasoned retro gaming enthusiast, I appreciate the opportunity to explore new content in an established game like Dark Age of Camelot.
One aspect that stands out in Catacombs is the instanced adventures, which allow players to explore at their own pace. This feature gives a nostalgic feel reminiscent of classic games, where players could venture out on their own, charting their own path through the game world. It adds a sense of freedom and exploration that can be lacking in more linear gaming experiences.
Furthermore, the expansion pack introduces a major art upgrade to player character models. This enhancement provides more detailed facial features, hairstyles, and skin tones, allowing players to further customize their characters to their liking. Additionally, the improved armor and clothing options add a touch of realism and immersion to the game, making it even more visually appealing.
In terms of new content, Catacombs introduces one new player class per realm. This addition adds depth and variety to gameplay, allowing players to choose from a wider range of playstyles. It keeps the game fresh and engaging for long-time players who may be looking for new challenges to tackle.
While I appreciate the effort put into the expansion pack, I must acknowledge some of its shortcomings. The overall rating of 3.5/10 reflects the fact that it may not live up to the expectations of some players. The expansion, while offering new adventures and character options, may not provide enough substantial content to justify its purchase for everyone.
In conclusion, Dark Age of Camelot: Catacombs offers a chance for players to dive into the underground world and explore new adventures. The instanced gameplay, upgraded character models, and additional player class options enhance the overall experience. However, it is worth noting that the expansion may not provide enough substantial content to satisfy every player. As a seasoned retro gaming enthusiast, I find this expansion to be a worthwhile addition to the Dark Age of Camelot series, but it may not be a must-have for all players.
