The Escapists: Complete Edition for the Switch is a package that's overflowing with content from the original game and its DLC packs, making it a one-stop shop for all your prison break simulation needs. Developed by Mouldy Toof Studios and published by Team 17, this game offers a unique and light-hearted take on the challenges of everyday prison life.
One of the standout features of The Escapists: Complete Edition is its attention to detail when it comes to simulating prison routines. From attending roll call to working jobs and keeping up appearances, players will need to immerse themselves in the daily grind in order to plan their escape. This level of authenticity not only adds to the nostalgia factor for retro gaming enthusiasts, but also provides a sense of accomplishment when executing a successful breakout.
Speaking of planning, The Escapists: Complete Edition offers a wide range of strategies and routes for players to explore. With multiple prisons to escape from and a variety of tools and items at your disposal, there's no shortage of options when it comes to formulating your ultimate jailbreak plan. The game encourages experimentation and creativity, allowing players to truly feel like they're living out their favorite prison break movies or TV shows.
However, while The Escapists: Complete Edition has its moments of retro gaming charm and offers some intriguing gameplay mechanics, it unfortunately falls short in a few key areas. The graphics, while intentionally retro-inspired, can feel a bit outdated and lack the polish of more modern offerings. Additionally, the controls on the Switch can be a bit clunky at times, leading to frustrating moments when precision is required.
Furthermore, the game's pacing can be a bit uneven, with moments of excitement followed by stretches of monotony. The routine-based gameplay, while initially engaging, can become repetitive over time, leading to a sense of tedium. This may be a turn-off for players who prefer games with a faster pace or more varied gameplay experiences.
In conclusion, The Escapists: Complete Edition for the Switch is a mixed bag for retro gaming enthusiasts. While it offers a nostalgic feel and some genuinely enjoyable moments, it falls short in terms of graphics, controls, and pacing. With a video game rating of 3/10, it is important to set expectations accordingly before diving into this prison break simulation. If you're a fan of retro-style games and have a penchant for planning the perfect escape, this game may still provide a worthwhile diversion, but be prepared for some frustrations along the way.
