Conflict: Denied Ops for PlayStation 3 is an intriguing addition to the world of retro gaming. Developed by Pivotal Games and published by Eidos Interactive, this game takes players on a thrilling journey as deniable operatives. Placed in high-stakes scenarios, these operatives must complete their missions without any affiliation to the government.
The game's focus on two-man tactics allows for accessible gameplay and seamless team coordination. Players can easily switch between their two highly specialized operatives, utilizing their unique skills and weapons to tackle various challenges. Whether it's laying down covering fire, exploring different paths, creating distractions, or pinning the enemy under heavy fire, the game offers an engaging and immersive experience.
One of the standout features of Conflict: Denied Ops is its highly destructible environment, made possible by Pivotal's Puncture Technology. Players can strategically shoot through walls to create sniper positions or blast through obstacles to surprise their enemies. This level of interactivity adds an exciting element to the gameplay and allows for creative tactics to be employed.
While Conflict: Denied Ops offers a nostalgic feel reminiscent of classic games, it falls short in terms of overall quality. The game's rating of 2/10 reflects its weaknesses, such as lackluster graphics and repetitive gameplay. Despite its potential, the execution of the game leaves much to be desired.
On the positive side, the game's Hollywood-style action sequences and explosive set pieces provide moments of excitement and intensity. Players will find themselves immersed in politically sensitive areas across South America, Africa, and Russia, as they fight for a just cause while disregarding the rules of engagement.
As a retro gaming enthusiast, I appreciate the concept and ambition behind Conflict: Denied Ops. However, its shortcomings in execution and overall gameplay experience prevent it from reaching its full potential. While it may appeal to fans of classic games and those seeking a nostalgic experience, it is important to approach this title with realistic expectations.
