Patrician IV takes players back to the late Middle Age, immersing them in the bustling world of the Hanseatic League and its naval trading empire. As a young merchant, players start from humble beginnings as a small stall trader and must utilize their skills to climb the ranks and become Europe's most powerful merchant. The game's authentic supply and demand-based trading system provides a realistic experience, allowing players to grow their business and form trading routes with other Hanseatic cities.
Developed by Gaming Minds Studios GmbH, a studio comprised of members from the original Patrician development team, Patrician IV aims to capture the essence of classic trading simulation games. The game offers a range of features, from shaping towns and capitals during the middle ages to prospering in a realistic economy driven by supply and demand.
In Patrician IV, players must find a delicate balance amidst competing interests, trade routes, political turmoil, disease, weather, piracy, and greedy royalty, all of which can impact their wealth and reputation. Constructing buildings, hiring workers, and stimulating demand for goods are all part of the gameplay experience. Players can fortify their convoys to fend off pirate attacks or engage in realistic sea battles to hunt down these threats.
Taking players along the Baltic and North Sea, Patrician IV allows them to visit medieval cities like London, Novgorod, Cologne, and Bergen. As they navigate the trading landscape, players will also compete against eight computer-controlled merchants to become the most renowned leader of the Hanseatic League.
Patrician IV brings a sense of nostalgia for fans of classic trading simulation games. With its historical setting, intricate trading mechanics, and strategic challenges, it captures the essence of retro gaming while offering enough depth to engage modern players. While it may not receive top marks in terms of innovation, Patrician IV delivers a satisfying experience for those seeking a blend of historical accuracy and in-depth gameplay.
