Sintesi

Company of Heroes 2: The British Forces for PC is the latest addition to the COH2 series, offering an opportunity for players to experience the iconic Allied army. As a seasoned retro gaming enthusiast, I was excited to dive into this game and see how it measured up to the classic RTS games of the past.

One aspect of The British Forces that immediately stood out to me was the unique tech-tree system. This system challenges the player to carefully balance their choices between mobility and defense. This added layer of strategy adds depth to the gameplay and keeps players on their toes, constantly having to adapt their tactics to the situation at hand.

Another aspect of the game that gives it a nostalgic feel is the open end game configuration. This allows players to surprise their opponents with their development choices, keeping the matches fresh and unpredictable. It reminded me of the days when strategy games were all about quick thinking and outsmarting your foes rather than relying on a set formula.

Unfortunately, despite these highlights, there were several shortcomings that prevented Company of Heroes 2: The British Forces from truly shining. Firstly, the game suffers from a lack of content. With only one playable faction, the replay value quickly diminishes. While the unique tech-tree and open end game configuration help to mitigate this issue to some extent, it still leaves players wanting more.

Additionally, the overall gameplay mechanics felt clunky and outdated. Controls were often unresponsive, making it frustrating to execute precise commands. The AI also left much to be desired, with units often making questionable decisions and lacking the strategic intelligence that seasoned players have come to expect.

Visually, Company of Heroes 2: The British Forces falls flat compared to its predecessors. The graphics are lackluster and fail to capture the gritty realism that made the original game so immersive. While graphics don't make or break a retro game, it's disappointing to see a decline in visual quality in a sequel.

In conclusion, while Company of Heroes 2: The British Forces offers some unique features that harken back to classic RTS games, it falls short in many areas. The lack of content and outdated gameplay mechanics hold it back from reaching its full potential. As a seasoned retro gaming enthusiast, I can't help but feel disappointed by this latest addition to the COH2 series. With a rating of 3.5/10, it's hard to recommend this game to players looking for a truly nostalgic and satisfying gaming experience.
