Greg Hastings' Tournament Paintball Max'd for Nintendo DS is a game that attempts to capture the thrill and competitiveness of paintball tournaments. While it does offer some unique features, it falls short in many aspects, resulting in a less than satisfactory gaming experience.
One of the highlights of the game is the Field Editor, which allows players to design and play on their own custom fields. With a variety of object and bunker types, as well as texture options, players have the freedom to create their own gaming universe. This feature adds a level of creativity and personalization that is reminiscent of classic games from the past.
Controlling your team in the game is also a unique aspect, thanks to the Breakout Manager feature. This allows players to direct their AI teammates and strategically plan their movements at the start of each game. It adds a tactical element to the gameplay, which can be appreciated by those who enjoy planning and strategizing.
The game also offers split-screen and co-op modes, allowing up to four players to compete against each other or team up to take on the pros. This multiplayer aspect adds a social element to the game, making it more enjoyable to play with friends.
However, despite these few redeeming features, Greg Hastings' Tournament Paintball Max'd for Nintendo DS fails to deliver on multiple fronts. The graphics are lackluster, even for a retro game, and the controls can be clunky and unresponsive at times. The gameplay itself lacks depth and becomes repetitive quickly, leaving players wanting more variety and excitement.
Overall, Greg Hastings' Tournament Paintball Max'd for Nintendo DS receives a rating of 3.5 out of 10. While it offers a few interesting features and a nostalgic feel reminiscent of classic games, it falls short in terms of graphics, gameplay, and overall enjoyment. It may appeal to die-hard paintball enthusiasts looking for a portable gaming option, but for the average retro gaming enthusiast, there are better options available.
