Gurumin 3D: A Monstrous Adventure for 3DS is a delightful game that captures the essence of classic retro gaming while also offering a unique and nostalgic experience. Developed by Falcom and published by Mastiff, this game takes players on a journey with the strong-willed protagonist, Parin, as she embarks on a quest to save Monster Village from the menacing Phantoms.
One of the standout features of Gurumin 3D is its non-linear gameplay, which allows players to explore a vast world filled with different environments and stages. This adds a sense of freedom and adventure, reminiscent of the exploration-heavy games of yesteryear. Players will find themselves immersed in this charming world, interacting with 23 memorable non-player characters and battling 48 unique enemies.
The gameplay revolves around using Parin’s legendary drill to destroy everything in her path. This is where the game truly shines, as almost all objects can be destroyed, revealing hidden money and valuable items. This mechanic harkens back to the satisfying destruction found in classic games and adds a sense of empowerment and discovery to the experience.
Visually, Gurumin 3D captures a nostalgic feel with its charming and colorful graphics. The game’s 3D effect on the Nintendo 3DS adds depth and enhances the overall immersion, making it an enjoyable visual experience for players.
However, despite its many positive aspects, Gurumin 3D does have its flaws. The game falls short in terms of its overall execution and polish. The controls can feel clunky and imprecise at times, leading to frustrating moments during gameplay. Additionally, the story, while charming, lacks depth and fails to fully engage the player.
Overall, Gurumin 3D: A Monstrous Adventure for 3DS offers a unique and nostalgic gaming experience, blending retro appeal with modern conveniences. While it may not be a perfect game with its flaws in execution and story, its non-linear gameplay, charming visuals, and sense of exploration make it worth a play for retro gaming enthusiasts looking for a trip down memory lane.
